Editor’s Note

The information presented in the article “On-campus pub approved” (News, May 9) was incorrect. The Associated Students UCLA board of directors did not approve its budget on Friday and did not approve funding for an on-campus bar or for the sale of beer or wine on campus, several board members said Wednesday.

The article also should not have said Interim Chancellor Norman Abrams has in the past rejected the proposal for a bar on campus. Abrams, in fact, has never been presented with such a proposal, Andy Green and Dave Karlik, undergraduate board members who were interviewed for Tuesday’s story, said in a written response to the article.

Several board members said there was an ASUCLA Finance Committee budget meeting on Friday, where the budget was presented, but there was no board of director’s meeting and no actions or votes at all were taken at Friday’s meeting.

The proposed ASUCLA budget includes $650,000 for the renovation of the Ackerman Terrace Food Court, but the budget still must be approved by the board, Green said.

The board discussed the pub at the meeting, but has taken no formal vote on the matter, Green said.

“”˜Approved’ was the wrong term,” Green said by way of clarification. “It should have said “˜budgeted.’ It should never have said approved.”

Several board members said the sale of beer and wine on campus is a possibility the board has discussed and one that many board members support.

“The board has discussed the Terrace Food Court Casual Dining renovation and the possibility that this facility may in the future serve beer and wine,” Green and Karlik wrote in the response.

“In the coming year, the feasibility of beer and wine service will continue to be evaluated by the board in conjunction with ASUCLA management and in collaboration with administration and student leaders,” the response read.

The Daily Bruin regrets the error and would like to apologize to ASUCLA and everyone involved in the creation of a bar on campus, as well as to all its readers.
