Women’s track continues to stand out

Whether she is running on a hilly course or on a covered track, Allie Bohannon continues to impress.

Bohannon highlighted a successful weekend for the women’s track and field team at the Tyson Invitational. Following up on a breakout cross country season, the redshirt sophomore has come out of the gates strong in this year’s indoor campaign, posting a pair of impressive times over the weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.

Bohannon finished third in the championship section of the mile, finishing in 4:41, less than two seconds from the NCAA automatic qualifier. The mark keeps her as one of the top milers in the nation.

The redshirt sophomore from Tennessee followed up that performance with a lifetime best of 2:11 in the 800m, good enough to win her section.

Also standing out for the Bruins were a number of jumpers who all had lifetime-best performances. Junior pole-vaulter Ingrid Kantola had a huge personal-best jump of 13-2.5 to vault her to the No. 7 all-time mark in UCLA history, while newcomer Keneisha Creary, who transferred from Southwestern Christian College, cleared 5-11.25 in the high jump, which puts her at a tie for eighth on the all-time list as well. Redshirt junior Renee Williams also had a big day, picking up a NCAA qualifying bid with her leap of 41-8.75 in the triple jump.

The 4x400m relay team, comprised of sophomores Krystin Lacy and Chanelle Curry, senior MacKenzie Hill and sophomore Nicole Leach also picked up a qualifying time in 3:38.92, which was good enough for second place.

MEN’S TRACK: The No. 24 Bruin men also had a banner day, picking up a myriad of outstanding marks in Arkansas. Most notably, sophomore hurdler Kevin Craddock continues to tear apart the competition, winning the 60m hurdle title in record fashion. The sophomore clocked in at 7.73, breaking a 30-year-old school record previously held by Greg Foster, and was just .03 seconds shy of an automatic qualifying time.

In the field, redshirt junior John Caulfield improved upon his season-best mark as the top collegiate finisher in the shot put with a toss of 61-1.45. Pole vaulter’s Mike Landers and Dave Murphy also had strong outings, as redshirt senior Landers finished third in the championship section of the pole vault at 17-4.50 while redshirt senior Murphy took second in the college section at 17-0.75.
