In a tight game at Cal State Fullerton, the women’s
basketball team pulled out an 84-74 win last night, evening its
record to 4-4.
In one of the most complete offensive performances of the year,
five Bruins tallied double digits in points, the first time that
has happened so far this season.
Lindsey Pluimer led the Bruins with 19 points.
UCLA started the game strong, busting an 8-2 run to start the
game and pushed the gap to 17-9 a few minutes later.
Relying on 3-pointers, the Titans closed to a two-point deficit
and hung around for most of the first half.
With five minutes to play in the half, the Bruins turned up the
heat, building a 34-25 lead.
However, the Titans refused to roll over, closing the gap to
42-37 at halftime.
In the second half, Fullerton managed to pull within one point
of the Bruins at the 16-minute mark but UCLA went on a 9-2 run and
kept the lead for good.
For most of the second half the Titans were within striking
distance of the Bruins, but the UCLA offense did not let them catch
up.
The Titans put up 45 points after the break, but UCLA dropped
50, shooting 47 percent on the day.
The Titans shot 52 percent on the game, the highest percentage
the Bruins have allowed all season.
The Bruins also turned the ball over 23 times, compared to
Fullerton’s 15.
Despite suffering an ankle injury a few minutes into the game,
Chinyere Ibekwe added 18 points. Noelle Quinn dropped 17 and Amanda
Livingston was good for 12.
Defensive specialist Tierra Henderson had a career-high 11
points.
With the win last night UCLA improved their all-time record
against the Titans of Fullerton to 24-10.
The Bruins will travel to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters on
Monday.
