Drafted Bruins get NFL action

The three Bruins who were drafted to the NFL back in April have
all made it onto NFL rosters and are seeing some playing time.

Maurice Jones-Drew, known mostly as Maurice Drew while at UCLA,
has seen action as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ second running
back and kick returner.

In his first two games, Jones-Drew, the Jaguars’
second-round pick, has had four carries for 12 yards, two
receptions for six yards and one kickoff return for 21 yards. On
the big Monday night game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept.
18, Jones-Drew made a key block in one of the key plays of the
game: a Reggie Williams 48-yard reception that led to a field goal,
giving the Jaguars a 9-0 lead.

Jones-Drew’s UCLA and Jaguar teammate, tight end Marcedes
Lewis, made his NFL debut in the Jaguars’ second game of the
year, on Sept. 18. The Jaguars’ first-round draft pick did
not play in the season opener and was limited in the second game
because of an ankle injury.

Jarrad Page, drafted in the seventh and final round, is listed
as a backup free safety on the Kansas City Chiefs’ depth
chart and saw playing time in each of the Chiefs’ first two
games of the season, making four tackles.

In Kansas City’s first game, Page was even part of a
successful fake punt, running for four yards after a direct
snap.

Quarterback Drew Olson, who played at UCLA from 2002 to 2006,
was cut from the Baltimore Ravens before the season, but was then
signed to their practice squad. Spencer Havner, a linebacker for
UCLA from 2001 to 2006, took part in training camp for the
Washington Redskins but was cut shortly before the season. Neither
Olson nor Havner was selected in the NFL Draft, but signed with
their respective teams as free agents before being cut.
