UCLA ranks high on several lists of top
universities
In the past month, various news publications have released their
rankings of the top universities in the nation, consistently naming
UCLA as one of these schools.
In the U.S. News and World Report rankings of the top
universities in the nation, UCLA fell one spot from last year to
No. 26.
UCLA ranked 12th in the Aug. 14 edition of Newsweek by
Newsweek/Kaplan, a test preparation service, as one of “The
Top 100 Global Universities.” These universities have
qualities that help promote the recruitment and admission of
international students, have a vibrant study abroad system, and
offer courses that address the challenges of a global world.
One week after being named a top “global”
university, Newsweek/Kaplan named UCLA as one of 25 “New
Ivies,” colleges whose academic programs and number of
applicants place them in competition with Ivy League schools for
top students.
“UCLA has been able to appeal to a growing number of the
nation’s top students because of its commitment to academic
excellence, range of program options, variety of campus activities
and desirable location, and the Kaplan/Newsweek guide is pleased to
recognize this accomplishment,” said Annette Riffle,
contributing editor for the 2007 guide, in a press release.
Also within the past month, UCLA was ranked No. 4 in the nation
by the Washington Monthly College guide in its second annual
rankings.
