The Westwood Farmers’ Market opened Thursday at the
Veterans’ Garden on Sepulveda Drive, three months after the
Westwood Village Farmer’s Market, which had been around for
12 years, closed in April.
Over the summer, the new market location will operate Thursdays
from 1 to 7 p.m. The market’s hours for the school year have
not yet been determined.
The market replaces the old Westwood Village Farmers’
Market, which was located on the corner of Westwood Boulevard and
Weyburn Avenue. It was closed in April after the Los Angeles Fire
Department found the area to be unsafe.
The new location offers unique advantages, including free
parking and access to veterans’ rehabilitation artwork
displayed in the garden, said Mark Wall, a representative of the
market, in a statement.
He also said many farmers who participated in the old Weyburn
market have signed on for the new market.
Second-year psychology student Emily Field said she had mixed
feelings about the new market.
“I’m glad they’re having a farmers’
market again, but it was nice to just be able to walk (to the
former market location) after class,” she said.
