Senior goalkeeper Emily Feher of the UCLA women’s water
polo team has been named to the USA women’s national water
polo team. Feher has guided the team to back-to-back national
championships as she has tallied 550 saves over her three years in
front of the net. Named to the team along with Feher is national
standout and former Bruin player Natalie Golda. Golda served as the
assistant coach during the 2006 season, and in her four years on
the UCLA team she led the team to three national titles. Golda is
arguably one of the greatest players in history ““ she scored
two goals playing for the U.S. Olympic team in 2004, helping Team
USA capture the bronze medal. As a senior in 2005, Golda received
the Cutino Award, which is given to the best player in
women’s collegiate water polo. Former Bruin Jamie Hipp was
selected to the team as one of two alternates. Hipp, who played
goalie for UCLA, helped the Bruins capture two NCAA Championships
in 2000 and 2003 with a career 685 saves and 4.05 career
goals-against average. Those two numbers both rank second in
UCLA’s record books. Currently ranked second in the world,
Team USA will compete in the FINA World League Semifinals at the
USA Water Polo National Training Center in Los Alamitos from July
12 to 16.
WOMEN’S GOLF: UCLA senior Hannah Jun
qualified to play in the 106th U.S. Women’s Amateur

sectional qualifying in Phoenix, Ariz. on July 6. The championship
will take place from Aug. 7 to 13 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in
North Plains, Ore. Also playing in the championship with Jun are
sophomores Tiffany Joh, Jane Park and Ryann O’Toole, who all
received exemptions from the sectional qualifying round for
exceptional play during their careers.
WOMEN’S TENNIS: UCLA’s Riza
Zalameda won the singles title at the USTA Women’s Pro
Circuit event in Edmond, Okla. last week. The event, held at the
Kickingbird Tennis Center, ended when the eighth-seeded Zalameda
beat Alexa Glatch 6-4 and 6-1 to clinch the title. Zalameda, a

play in a pro circuit event this week in Southlake, Texas.
MEN’S GOLF: Senior Chris Heintz finished
12th and four other Bruin golfers competed in the 13th Sahalee

Kevin Chappell and Daniel Im both finished at 3-over and tied for
18th place. Junior Craig Leslie and sophomore James Lee rounded out
the Bruin competitors with 27th- and 31st-place finishes,
respectively.
PAC-10: The conference of champions has once
again proven its name accurate. With nine team championships this
year, the Pac-10 outpaced all other conferences. Seven different
Pac-10 schools won championships this year, led by UCLA and
Stanford, which each won two. UCLA won titles in both women’s
water polo and men’s volleyball. Stanford won its titles in
women’s tennis and women’s cross country. Washington,
Oregon State, USC, Arizona and California also won national
championships. UCLA leads all schools with 99 NCAA team
titles.
