UCLA alumna takes on Dodgers’ public relations

After a dismal and disappointing season, the Los Angeles Dodgers
desperately needed a change. And the management responded with an
overhaul.

In an ongoing series of off-season moves, the Dodgers recently
named UCLA graduate Camille Johnston as their new senior vice
president of communications.

“Camille’s broad and diverse communications
experience makes her uniquely qualified to represent the
franchise,” Dodgers Vice Chairman Jamie McCourt said in a
press release.

Johnston will primarily be responsible for handling the
organization’s public relations.

“Right now we are getting ready to announce the
team’s new general manager and manager. We are excited about
the future and look forward to spring training,” she
said.

Johnston comes to the Dodgers from Rodale Inc., a leading
publishing company, where she worked as vice president of corporate
communications.

However, it was not always so glorious for Johnston.

Her path to the Dodgers began at UCLA as a political science
student.

“I enjoyed the diversity of the campus,” Johnston
said. “I liked the atmosphere and the opportunity to
experience such a variety of activities.”

After graduating in 1990, Johnston moved to the nation’s
capital, holding several communications positions at the U.S.
departments of Labor and Education.

During the Clinton presidency, she worked as a senior White
House aide in the Office of the Vice President and played a role in
the Clinton-Gore re-election campaign in 1996.

But after years of working throughout the country, Johnston
wanted to come home.

“This is a dream come true for me. I wanted to come back
to Los Angeles, and I’ve been a lifelong Dodgers fan,”
she said.

Johnston believes her job with the Dodgers is the best fit and
hopes to be with the organization for years to come.
