Winning teams attract more fans Just a few
short years ago, the Bruins were drawing more fans than the
Trojans. Win and they will come.

Hockey coverage great for sport Thank you for
an excellent article on the UCLA hockey team (“Grassroots
project,” Oct. 6). Coach Michael Kelly and his team work very
hard and deserve the support of the UCLA community. Articles in The
Bruin go a long way toward garnering enthusiasm and keeping ice
hockey in the minds ““ and hopefully hearts ““ of
everyone. Their first game against Cal on Friday night was amazing
““ the team looked great. What a blast it was to be there and
cheer them on. I sincerely hope you continue to feature this group
of athletes throughout their season.

Respect not meant for Bruin football “As
practice ended, a plane with a skywriter flew over Spaulding Field,
UCLA’s practice facility, and wrote the word
“RESPECT” in the sky. (Football coach Karl) Dorrell
said that he had no idea why the plane was there”
(“Punter keeps eye on the future,” Oct. 6). In case no
one has contacted you already, the “RESPECT” in the sky
was in honor of Rodney Dangerfield. It was the one-year anniversary
of his death. But if it fires up the Bruins, that’s cool.
