Daily Bruin: So how’d you get those big guns?
Justin London: It’s a disciplined regimen. You gotta work
hard to get where you’re at. I’m no different. This
summer I was training with some of my friends in Diamond Bar that
are in the NFL. We did speed work, sand work in the morning, and
then I would come back in the afternoon and put in the work with
the guys. It’s a long day, but you gotta do what you gotta
do.
DB: You must’ve put on a lot of weight since your freshman
year ““ mostly muscle though, right?
JL: Nah, actually I put on a cool six pounds. I’m 234
pounds. I lost a lot of fat. …
DB: Nice, low body-mass index. I feel you. Alright, so I gotta
ask, what gives you the jeepers creepers?
JL: Hate spiders. Hate spiders.
DB: You’re such a big guy, how are you afraid of
spiders?
JL: They’re the smallest, most dangerous things.
They’re around all the time. But you see them one minute and
then you don’t. You can’t beat something you
don’t see.
DB: Sorta like your game, right? You’re there one minute
and then you’re not. Your opponents don’t know when
you’re going to pop up.
JL: Hahaha. I like that. That’s cool. You never know when
I’m gonna get you. You gotta be ready all four quarters cause
you never know when I’m going to hit you. …
DB: Now you’re in your last season here. Your dad played
for the Cleveland Browns. What are your aspirations?
JL: I’m just trying to do the same thing. I love this game
and I’m just trying to get to that next level. …
DB: So how’s that right ankle doing?
JL: I’m recovering still. It’s something
that’s been a hindrance in my college career, but I
definitely think it’s going to be something for the best. I
believe in life everything happens for a reason. So you never know
what’s going to happen during your career. Looking back upon
this injury, I can take something from it.
DB: So people still haven’t seen the best yet?
JL: Nah, nah. You have to keep watching to see the best of
Justin London. I feel like I get better everyday. I’m
continuing to get my body healthy, and if that goes, my play goes.
…
DB: Now you’re going to be making some big decisions in
the coming year. But you made one coming to UCLA. Does it seem like
a long time ago when you were trying to weigh between UCLA and your
hometown school, Virginia Tech?
JL: No, it feels like yesterday. But my collegiate career has
flown by. It’s been really crazy. It feels like yesterday
when I was making a decision on schools, and here I am getting
ready to make decisions about the next level. It’s going by
fast but I’m just enjoying it. …
DB: So you’re not at practice. Which teammates do you call
up first?
JL: I live in Westwood, and Trey Brown and Bruce Davis stay on
the same street as me. You’ll be surprised that whenever
we’re getting ready to get up, we’ll all get up
together. We all roll pretty deep.
DB: What do you guys do in your spare time?
JL: Haha, same thing as everyone else does. We regular cats.
DB: Just out of curiosity what kind of wheels do you roll
in?
JL: Montero Sport with Virginia tags. Virginia tags is key to
the car. I’ve had the car since junior year of high
school.
DB: Nice. Who has the best ride on the team?
JL: People have some pretty nice cars out here. Spencer (Havner)
has a Mack Truck, (Maurice Drew) has an Escalade on 23s … people
have some whips. The girls like the cars, and if you got the cars
then you don’t need game. So holla at them cats (pointing to
Drew).
DB: Another random question. Let’s say you have some free
time. No studying. Money isn’t an object. What would you do?
You have someone’s phone number. Anyone. Who would you want
to hit up?
JL: I’d probably gotta holla at Halle Berry, see
what’s she’s up to. See what the “Monster’s
Ball” is talking ’bout.
