Mission Hills gets own police station
Officials dedicated a police station in Mission Hills ““
the first new area station built in the city since 1978.
The Mission Area Police Station will serve about 201,000
residents in a 28-square-mile area including Sylmar, Mission Hills,
North Hills, Panorama City and part of Granada Hills.
Those residents had been served primarily by the Devonshire and
Foothill stations. The new station should sharply reduce response
times, police leaders said during Saturday’s dedication.
“Our report card will be our ability to reduce the number
of victims in our community,” said Capt. Kirk J. Albanese,
the station’s area commander.
Mayor James Hahn said that a new station was needed because of
dramatic growth in the San Fernando Valley.
District attorney probes Villaraigosa’s
funds
District Attorney Steve Cooley said Friday his office was
looking into questionable out-of-state donations to Antonio
Villaraigosa, one day after the mayoral candidate announced he was
returning $47,000 from workers of two Florida-based companies.
“In response to extensive media coverage, I believe an
inquiry is warranted and have instructed our Public Integrity
Division to take the necessary first steps,” Cooley said in a
statement.
There was no political motivation to the move, said Jane
Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s
office.
