Three of UCLA’s top linebackers underwent successful
surgical procedures this past Friday and are expected to be at full
capacity by the start of fall practice. Linebacker Spencer Havner
had a labral tear repaired in his right shoulder and Wesley Walker
had a small tear of the lateral meniscus in his right knee
repaired, both arthroscopically. Both may be able to participate
for a limited capacity during the latter part of UCLA’s
off-season practice that begins in two weeks. Justin London also
had an arthroscopic procedure to clean out loose bodies in the
right ankle he sprained last season. Offensive lineman Robert Chai
had surgery to clean out the area around his left patellar tendon.
Special teams coach Brian Schneider, who also worked with the
outside linebackers and nickel backs, will instead coach the
safeties next season, coach Karl Dorrell announced. Gary DeLoach
will oversee the secondary and coach the cornerbacks.

WOMEN’S TRACK: Dawn Harper was one of two
Bruins to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships this past
weekend in Boise. The junior posted a pair of victories, winning
the 60 meters in a personal-best 7.72 seconds and the 60-meter
hurdles in 8.37 seconds. Senior Candice Baucham also earned a trip
to next month’s NCAA Championships, finishing second in the
triple jump with 42 feet, 1.5 inches. Junior Jacqueline Nguyen and
freshman Allison Miller were UCLA’s other event-winners,
taking first places in the pole vault (12-11.50) and the high jump
(5-7.75) respectively.
