With the lack of new developments in the case of missing UCLA
student Ahmad Arain, the Arain family has doubled the
reward offered for information leading to Arain’s safe
return.
Family members announced Monday that $20,000 would be offered
for valuable information regarding Arain’s whereabouts.
Arain, a fourth-year computer science student, was reported
missing July 23 when he did not return home after missing a
scheduled academic counseling appointment at UCLA.
With university police unable to provide any new information for
the past week, the investigation is at a seeming standstill, but
university officials say the investigation is continuing and UCPD
is following every lead.
Arain was last known to have exited an MTA bus headed
to UCLA at a residential area about 6 miles from campus, said
police officials after a bus surveillance video was reviewed.
Because Arain is an adult and seems to have exited the bus
voluntarily on the surveillance video, police officials say it
is difficult to speculate as to his whereabouts.
But family members firmly believe that Arain would not have left
his home and loved ones on his own will and express frustration
that the police are not approaching the case more aggressively. The
family also has hired its own private detective to
conduct an independent investigation.
And weeks of anticipation certainly have taken their toll
on Arain’s friends and family, says his uncle, Rafe Husain.
"Whenever the phone rings, we grab it hoping that we get good
news," he said.
