Relay team gets spot in NCAA finals The UCLA
women’s 4×400 meter relay team was given a berth into the
finals of the NCAA Championships, according to the North County
Times, despite failing to qualify earlier in the day. The
Bruins’ time of 44.509 seconds, achieved earlier in the day
at the preliminary race, had been .006 seconds behind the ninth and
last qualifier, Texas Christian. But Texas, one of the other
qualifiers, was disqualified by the NCAA late Wednesday night
because it used sliced tennis balls to mark the exchange spot on
the track, according to the North County Times. If the NCAA’s
decision holds up, the Bruin 4×400 relay team will race in the
finals on Saturday..
MEN’S GOLF: Three former UCLA golfers
will be competing at the U.S. Open, which will be played June 17-20
at Shinnecock Hills on Long Island, NY. Parker McLaughlin, Duffy
Waldorf, and Tom Pernice Jr. all qualified at sectional sites.
Waldorf and Pernice are both PGA tour professionals and were
All-Americans while in Westwood. McLaughlin made the Open from his
home state of Hawaii. He has won twice before professionally.
SWIMMING: Former UCLA All-American Regan
Gosnell finished in 15th place at the semifinals of the U.S.
Olympic diving. She entered the semifinals in 17th. The finals will
be held June 13 and only the winner will be guaranteed of a
