Chancellor will hold townhall meeting to address students’ issues, concerns

All students are welcome to participate in a townhall meeting on
Friday where Chancellor Albert Carnesale will be present and a
variety of issues ranging from budget cuts to admissions will be
addressed.

The event will take place in the Student Activities Center and
is sponsored by the Undergraduate Students Association Council.

“The townhall was suggested to create a space where
students can voice their concerns and opinions about the
compact,” said Sophia Kozak, the former Academic Affairs
commissioner, referring to the agreement made by the University of
California and the governor about budget cuts made when the May
revision was proposed.

The townhall meeting is a compromise between students and the
chancellor since Carnesale was not available to talk to student
leaders when they approached him to address issues regarding
admission cuts earlier in the quarter, Kozak added.

Allende PalmaSaracho, the new USAC president said he wants to
discuss the future plans of the administration regarding important
issues like outreach and financial aid.

Max Benavidez, a spokesman for the university, described the
meeting as an opportunity for the chancellor to get in touch with
the students.

“(This) is a part of the chancellor’s efforts to
continue his ongoing efforts and discussion with the campus and
students,” he said.

The townhall meeting will take place Friday from 12 – 2 p.m.
in the Student Activities Center Conference Room 3. It is open to
the public.
