Deeming North Campus classes easy an unfair
assessment

The Monday Commentary, “North Campus classes insult
students’ abilities” (News, April 26), presents an
unfounded generalization about UCLA academics. One cannot make a
conclusion about the difference between North Campus and South
Campus students based on one statistics class. Most North Campus
students would argue that statistics hardly counts as a purely
North Campus class. The departments from the North and South offer
hundreds of classes that broadly range in their level of
difficulty.

Moreover, certain material that challenges one student may not
challenge the next. The article unfairly criticizes the students,
faculty and staff of North Campus whose genius and hard work make
priceless contributions to the entire UCLA community.

Israel’s treatment of Palestinians must be
considered

I was deeply concerned by the one-sided presentation of Israel
in Ross Neihaus’ submission “Israel deserves
appreciation with weeklong celebration” (April 26).
Regardless of the wonderful ways in which Israel supposedly treats
its citizens, one must also think about the way that it treats the
Palestinian people who it displaced.
