Drug improves treatment for juvenile
diabetes
A new drug, based on the findings of a UCLA study, may help halt
the progression of type I diabetes.
Individuals with juvenile diabetes must take daily insulin
injections. In clinical trials, the drug was found to greatly
increase insulin production in patients in the advanced stages of
the disease.
UCLA receives funds to study pollution and
asthma
The UCLA School of Public Health received a $70,000 grant from
the South Coast Air Quality Management District to study the
correlation between Los Angeles air pollution and asthma.
The money will fund the creation of the Asthma and Outdoor Air
Quality Consortium.
More than 17 million people in the United States have
asthma.
