E.J. “Doc” Kreis, the strength and conditioning
coach at UCLA, is reportedly under scrutiny again, this time from
the Boulder County Community Justice Services.
The program will review Kreis, former strength coach at
Colorado, for signing off on players’ community service hours
for time spent in the weight room, according to the Boulder Daily
Camera.
In sworn testimony regarding a lawsuit against CU by an alleged
victim, who maintains that she was raped during a football
recruiting party, Kreis reportedly acknowledged that while players
were at the Dal Ward Athletic Center, he signed off their
participation in the “community outreach” program he
ran.
According to the Daily Camera, Kreis said he didn’t
remember which players were involved.
The Community Justice Service’s examination will
reportedly look into 14 CU player’s files, but has already
shown that Kreis or a member of his staff had signed off at least
four players over a six-year period.
Jim Thome ““ program manager at the Community Justice
Service that holds charge over community services for Boulder
““ told the Daily Camera his office is attempting to verify
whether the players completed their community service. His review
should be complete by the end of the week.
Neither Kreis nor the UCLA Athletic Department could be reached
for comment.
The examination comes in the wake of several major
investigations into the CU athletic department and its football
program.
