After winning its first game of the year Tuesday, the UCLA
baseball team can take Saturday’s games easy. The
team’s relaxation is justified, though, as the Bruins will
spend Saturday playing exhibition alumni games against UCLA
ballplayers of the past. The events begin at 11 a.m. with a home
run contest, followed by two one-hour exhibition games, an
“Old-Timers Game” featuring alumni from the 1930s
through the ’70s and a “Young Timers Game”
featuring alumni from 1980-2003. At 1:30 p.m., the new class of
UCLA Baseball Hall of Famers will be introduced. This year’s
inductees are Ted Bashore, Floyd Chiffer, Pat Dodson, Sam Lovullo,
Ryan McGuire and Tim O’Neill. The main event starts at 2 p.m.
when the current Bruins challenge Bruins in the pros. Dave Roberts
of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chase Utley of the Philadelphia
Phillies are the only two major leaguers confirmed, although more
are expected to participate.

MEN’S SOCCER: In its first exhibition
game of the spring, the UCLA men’s soccer team tied the U.S.
Under-17 National Team, 3-3, Thursday morning. Two sophomores
scored for the Bruins, as defender Jordan Harvey struck twice and
forward Evan Corey scored the other goal. Assistant coach Jorge
Salcedo has assumed interim head coaching duties for the beginning
of the spring season as UCLA continues its search for a new head
coach.

MEN’S LACROSSE: The UCLA men’s
lacrosse team has its first home game of the year against Cal Poly
San Luis Obispo Saturday at 1 p.m. on the North Athletic Field. The
Bruins head into the game 1-0 after defeating UC Irvine last
weekend, 16-6. Cal Poly is ranked as one of the top 15 teams in
country.

HOCKEY: The UCLA hockey team plays its final
home game of the year Friday at 9 p.m. against BYU.
