UCLA football coach Karl Dorrell’s home in Stevenson Ranch
appears to have been spared by the Southern California wildfires
that ravaged the area.
Dorrell and his family were evacuated from his home on Tuesday
when the Simi Valley fire came within one mile of his subdivision
of the community in Santa Clarita Valley. However, fires in the
area have subsided, and while the Dorrells spent Wednesday night at
a Westwood hotel, they are counting themselves lucky.
“The fires went around the contours of our
subdivision,” Dorrell said. “I think the house (in the
community) is OK. We were very fortunate.”
Dorrell’s wife Kim attended Wednesday’s
practice.

INJURY UPDATE: Junior cornerback Matt Ware and
senior defensive tackle Rodney Leisle rehabbed their high ankle
sprains on Wednesday, running on treadmills in the training room.
However, neither practiced, and they will not play against Stanford
this weekend.
Junior running back Manuel White’s CT scan confirmed a
break of the scapula bone, and he will be out 6-8 weeks. While
White will not need surgery, Dorrell said White will not be ready
to play in a bowl game. In White’s absence, senior Akil
Harris has been taking reps at running back.
Sophomore tight end Keith Carter was given a CT scan Wednesday
because, according to Dorrell, “He felt his hip isn’t
responding like it should be.”
Carter dislocated his hip in a severe motorcycle accident this
past spring.
Carter did not practice Wednesday, and will not play Saturday.
Dorrell said he did not think Carter would apply for a medical
redshirt.
Sophomore running back Jason Harrison is at 85 to 90 percent and
took reps in practice. Harrison is almost at full speed and Dorrell
said he hoped Harrison would be “ready to go soon.”
