Students pausing for coffee breaks between their classes can now
check their e-mails and surf the Internet while they are in the
North Campus area.
The Associated Students of UCLA responded to student requests
for increasing Internet access on campus. These requests were
indicated in the results of numerous surveys of services it
conducts each year.
Last week, ASUCLA installed three computers with wireless
Internet connection in Northern Lights, located in the North Campus
Student Center.
Students who like to come to the coffeehouse to study or meet
with their friends will now have free and convenient access to the
Internet, said Coffeehouse Manager Raidis Maypa in a press
release.
Emir Estrada, a third-year sociology and Chicano studies
student, said she appreciates having Internet access available at
the coffeehouse because she has classes in the area.
“I like to come here to have coffee and study between
classes, so it’s very convenient that they’ve put up
the computers,” she said.
If the new computer terminals at the coffeehouse prove
successful, ASUCLA plans to install computers with Internet access
at other locations on campus.
Student Union Director Jerry Mann said five more computers are
set for installation on the first floor dining area in Ackerman
Union. The computers will be put there as soon as the supporting
shelves are built, he said.
