The UCLA men’s volleyball team is apparently not set at
the setting position for next season, so the Bruins are recruiting
freshman Beau Peters, a transfer student from Long Beach State.
The 6-foot, 5-inch Peters would have the most collegiate game
experience out of any setter on the UCLA roster after the Bruins
lost 3-year starter Rich Nelson to graduation. As an added bonus,
Peters set opposite UCLA incoming freshman hitter Steve Klosterman,
the nation’s top-rated recruit, in their days at Huntington
Beach Marina High.
Peters was released from his scholarship agreement at Long Beach
after losing a starting position in his true freshman season to
2003 MPSF Freshman of the Year Tyler Hildebrand. In one of
Peters’ few starts, he led the 49ers to a five-game win over
UCLA at Pauley Pavilion in January.
Highly regarded incoming freshman Julio Acevedo from Puerto Rico
remains penciled in to start at setter. Sophomores Aaron Dodd and
Dennis Gonzalez are also in the running for playing time.

UCLA will return to its traditional practice floor in the
Men’s Gym at the beginning of fall practice. The Bruins have
suffered through two injury-plagued seasons practicing in the
Wooden Center while the Men’s Gym underwent renovations.
