To lessen the hectic nature of move-outs, the Office of
Residential Life encouraged the students to get a head start by
taking their belongings home during the Memorial Day weekend and to
continue to do so as the last weeks of the academic year
approach.
According to posters up in residence halls, though move-out day
for on-campus residents is not until Friday, June 13, factors like
commencement and construction will affect the traffic flow.
Pamphlets mailed to residents said based on the previous years,
commencement ceremonies are expected to cause traffic congestion on
the Hill. The ceremonies are also expected to limit parking that
could be helpful to residents who are moving out.
The deadline to move out is noon June 13 for residents without
Friday finals. Students who have Friday finals will be verified by
their residence hall manager and will have until 10 p.m. on Friday
to move out.
A $50 fee will be charged for late move-outs, but some students
can stay over until Saturday morning at the cost of $75.
Hedrick Hall will be facing an additional problem due to the
construction of Hedrick North. The Hedrick parking lot has been
completely closed since the beginning of construction, and the use
of the turnaround will be limited during the move-outs, according
to construction updates posted online.
“I am trying to get as much of my things home as I can,
since it’s going to be tough to get everything out in a
couple of hours,” said Catherine Stuart, a first-year design
student and Hedrick resident.
To help the residents during peak hours, the Hedrick Office of
Residential Life and the Hedrick Front Desk will be providing
staff-operated shuttles running between Hedrick Hall and nearby
parking lots.
Other halls and individual floors are also taking action to help
their residents by putting up posters that contain helpful move-out
hints.
UCLA Housing and Hospitality Services, along with ORL, included
in pamphlets mailed to all residents a step-by-step process for a
successful and efficient move-out.
To meet their deadlines, residents are fully responsible for
returning their furniture to its original position, cleaning their
rooms, and turning in their keys to the front desk of the residence
hall by the expected time.
Failure to return keys will result in a fine up to $190, the
pamphlet stated.
