Women in Arkansas are fast ““ just ask Bill Clinton. But
hopefully not fast enough to catch the 10 Bruin women athletes
heading there in search of another national title.
This weekend the UCLA track and field team will compete in the
NCAA Indoor National Championships held at the University of
Arkansas in Fayetteville.
The women will be contending for a third indoor championship in
four years after winning consecutive titles in 2000 and 2001.
The team will be led by junior long distance runner Lena Nilsson
who enters the competition ranked first and second in the 800m and
the mile, respectively.
Other UCLA women entered include freshman Chelsea Johnson in the
pole vault, sophomore Jessica Cosby in the shot put and junior Cari
Soong in the weight throw, as well as the 4x400m squad of juniors
Adia McKinnon, Sheena Johnson and Hasani Roseby and sophomore
Monique Henderson.

The men’s track and field team will be sending three
athletes to Arkansas. Shot putters No. 4 senior Scott Wiegand and
No. 6 junior Dan Ames will be joined by sophomore miler Ben Aragon.
Ames will also compete in the weight throw.
