“˜ACME So Horny’ makes Saturday nights pleasurable

Dirty. Filthy. Nasty. Christina Aguilera isn’t the only
one who can describe these words. ACME Comedy Theatre’s
“ACME So Horny,” a sketch comedy show that premiered
Feb. 15, is but a reflection of the smut that has become so popular
““ and oh-so-loved ““ in American culture.

Made up of 16 sketch comedy routines, “So Horny”
takes everyday situations and adds a humorous raunch that draws
audience members into a world of innuendo and flat out obscenity
that they can be uncomfortable about journeying into alone.

The entertaining sketch comedies include everything from the
painful mating rituals of turtles and erotic displays of burrito
cunnilingus to a jaunt into the life of a furniture salesman.

While sex is undoubtedly the draw of this show, not all of the
scenes are centered around the human libido. But all of them are
seemingly mundane storylines cleverly taken to a whole new level,
doing things people often think about but never actually do.

In the piece titled “Finger,” the actors are at a
Starbucks and a simple run-in with one another turns into a fiery
contest on who can “give the finger” to the other in
the most creative way.

ACME actors showed off their individual talents humorously
shifting from smutty to smuttier. They were even more impressive in
their group chemistry and keen ability of playing off each other.
For example, in “Crowd Pleaser”, the actors showed
fantastic group work, acting in trios in a hilarious portrayal of
the dreaded occurrence of ex-girlfriends and new girlfriends
meeting and the drama that ensues.

And while most of the sketches were pointedly funny, there were
a handful of times when ACME tried too hard to be funny and fell
flaccid.

“Captain of Love”, in which an actor plays a navy
captain spending a night on the town unsuccessfully luring women,
was the most vexing performance of the night with the actor spewing
naval jargon and random obscenities to the audience.

Though there were irritating sketches, the abs-shaping,
side-cracking ones dominated the two-hour show. Highlighting the
night was “Keith’s Power Yoga”, a sketch that
showed why everyone honestly does yoga ““ it’s not
always about getting closer to a spiritual level, but rather
getting more flexible to reach a new sexual level.

With tickets sold at $15, the price was a bit steeper than
catching a movie on a Saturday night. Yet it did make for a much
more interesting and entertaining evening than watching a talking
kangaroo bouncing amok on the big screen.

For you mama’s boys and girls out there, leave them at
home and save this show for a night out with your friends.
It’s definitely a show for the sexually driven and the
sexually starved, and could even be an effective way to jump past
the awkwardness of a date, straight into the joy of the obscene and
the horny.
