Keyes commits to UCLA

Van Nuys Birmingham safety Dennis Keyes, who committed to former
head coach Bob Toledo’s staff, made the same commitment to new
coach Karl Dorrell’s staff. Keyes, the No. 14 ranked safety
in the nation, opened up his recruiting once Toledo was fired and
was considering Cal and UCLA, but announced on the Fox Sports West
last night that he will be playing for the Bruins.

“I’m staying with UCLA,” Keyes said. “I just
wanted to make sure I was making the right choice after Toledo got
fired. After I met Coach Dorrell, I felt really good about UCLA and
decided it was the best place for me.”

The decision to announce on television was unusual, but Keyes
said he just wanted to have some fun.

“My parents thought it would be a good idea to go ahead
and televise it,” Keyes said. “Fox Sports West asked me
if I would like to do it, and I thought it would be fun to do
it.”

Keyes won City Player of the Year honors and will sign the
Letter of Intent on February 5.
