Five unusual reasons to be single

Being single isn’t as bad as you might think.

The feelings of self-pity, misery, and utter loneliness are a
far cry from the reality of college singledom.

And while many mourn the sad lives they lead without a
significant other, I offer the top five reasons for becoming single
and staying that way. Even though a girl/boyfriend can offer loving
to last a lifetime, is it really worth the pain involved to have
them at your side?

Reason # 5: Not having to share anything with anyone.

Even though most of us were taught to share at about the age of
five, the last thing we really want to do is divvy up all of our
time and belongings. Take sleeping arrangements for
example. Twin beds were not meant for two, and spooning on a
hot summer night isn’t anyone’s idea of a good
time.

Sure, one likes to have sex or even cuddle on that bed, but when
it comes to actually sleeping, one person per bed is the only way
to get a good night’s rest. There’s no kicking,
extra body heat, or unwanted snoring to keep you up all night.

Having to share your bed is simply an encroachment on your
privacy, and being able to snooze alone means quality slumber.

Reason # 4: Being able to tell the truth.

Although many of us don’t like to admit it, having to lie
to your partner is just one of those things that comes with the
relationship. Life would be a lot easier if you didn’t
have to, but realistically everything you say and do is not
disclosed to your significant other.

For example, such questions as: “Where were you last
night?” or “Who was that girl/boy you were talking
to?” are nine times out of ten responded with a lie, if in
fact you wish to keep your relationship intact. Therefore, coming
from a moral perspective isn’t it easier to ditch the
excessive white lies and opt for the luxury of freedom?

Reason # 3: Being unaccountable to anyone but your
parents.

For some reason, girl/boyfriends feel it’s their duty to
know where you’re going, why you’re going, whom
you’re going with, and when you’ll be home. They
inadvertently assume the role your parents used to occupy, and
abuse it even more than they ever did.

Going out with your friends can have the capacity to spur World
War III, and having to call your significant other becomes more of
a chore than a pleasure. Being single makes you relish your
unaccountability, and allows you to not reach for the cell as soon
as you change location.

Reason # 2: Not being jealous, ever.

Some people would have to admit that the only thing they really
ever become jealous about is their girl/boyfriend. Wanted or even
unwanted attention from the opposite sex will absolutely drive some
people up the wall. And even though they might trust their
significant other, trusting those around them can be a different
story.

Furthermore, jealousy, my friends, is the root of all evil and
being evil is the last thing you want to spend your life doing. So,
while you may be jealous of your friend’s new car or your
classmate’s good grades, not having to be jealous of your
partner will put your mind at ease.

Reason # 1: Bitter, psycho exes.

To some this would be the number one reason not to be single,
but think about the fun you can have telling crazy stories about
them, trying to avoid them in public places and pissing them off
whenever you happen to be within their field of vision.

The battle with the ex can be exhaustive at first, but in
retrospect can keep you quite entertained. Going to bars and
seeing them purposely make out with someone can be just the fuel
you need to try and get them back.  And while I’m not
suggesting cold-hearted revenge, being single and loving it will do
the job just fine.

Even though these aren’t your typical reasons for choosing
to be single, they do serve to remind us just how impractical we
can all be at times. And while being single has the capacity
to bring freedom, fun, and hook-ups, it also means a life free of
jealous situations.
