On Friday, it was announced that Michael Fey, a center from
Capital High School in Olympia, Wash., will not be attending UCLA
in the fall.
Fey’s letter of Intent which he signed last November, will
be voided by UCLA because he did not meet NCAA initial eligibility
requirements.
Fey, who stands at 6 feet 11 inches and weighs 245 pounds, was
expected to serve as senior center Dan Gadzuric’s backup for
the men’s basketball team. Sophomore forward TJ Cummings is
now expected to become the backup center.
UCLA’s recruiting class that was supposed to include Fey
now consists of Cedric Bozeman, Andre Patterson and Dijon Thompson.
Before the setback, UCLA had compiled the No. 2 recruiting class in
the nation according to Recruiting USA.
But the Bruins are still expected to be one of the top teams in
the nation next season, largely due to the fact Gadzuric and junior
swingman Jason Kapono decided to come back to UCLA instead of
leaving for the NBA.
Unable to get the required scores on his ACT exams, Fey now
plans to attend a junior college or a prep school instead.
During his senior year in high school, Fey averaged 20 points,
10 rebounds and 1.5 blocks a game.
