Grand theft $2,097 Petty theft
Petty theft Two wallets, two backpacks, four
cellular phones, a scarf and helmet from a motorcycle, a pocket
organizer and a stethoscope were reported stolen this past period.
These thefts resulted in a total loss of $2,097. On Thursday,
someone stole $180 in construction material from the De Neve
construction site. Unknown suspects used a stolen credit card
number to withdraw $166.
Grand theft A total of eight cars were reported
stolen in the last period, including an electronic vehicle parked
in Lot 5. A laptop worth $2,500 was reported stolen from the Gonda
Goldschmied building. A bicycle helmet worth $600 was stolen from
the bike racks. Someone broke into the passenger side of a car and
took off with $980 in various items. Also, someone stole a backpack
with $600 worth of items from the Biomedical Library.
Miscellaneous There were 65 traffic stops, 24
burglar alarms and four accidents reported in the last period. On
Thursday, someone placed a call about a bomb that was to detonate
on Gayley Avenue, but authorities never found the device. A battery
was reported at 11 p.m. outside the Habibi cafe on Broxton Avenue
Wednesday night. A 40-year-old man attempted to gain entry into the
parking lot near the Center for Health Sciences by smashing the
gate with a wooden baton. Police responded to a burglary incident
at a pharmacy on Wilshire Boulevard and Westgate Avenue at 4 a.m.
Tuesday. Police stopped a student who was aggressively
skateboarding on Bruin Walk near the Bear. A woman was followed to
her car in Lot 1 by an unidentified man. The man allegedly fled
when she pushed the panic button on her keychain. After breaking up
an apparent fight involving a group of 30 people about to throw
bottles on Gayley Avenue, police issued a warning to those
involved. Someone filed a battery complaint after being bruised
during a medical exam at the Medical Plaza. Police arrested a
30-year-old man after he attempted to steal a camera from the Gonda
Goldschmied building.
