Midterms and finals are just a few weeks apart in UCLA’s
quarter system. What do you do to relieve stress?

Institute Studies six to eight hours a day. "I go running and take
a Salsa class. It’s not a thinking activity, like school, so it
clears the mind." Michaela Ursic Fourth-year
communications student English and political science "I go out and
hang out with friends and have a good time so you don’t have to

Third-year physics student Studies one hour each night, four hours
for each test. "I watch TV or hang out with friends. I try not to
cram, so I spread out the studying so I don’t have to stress out."
Curt Young Third-year, history student Spends most
of his time reading in both French and English, working on an
honors thesis. "I’m a Buddhist; I chant every morning and evening.
It reminds me that I’m connected to the universe, it cools me out
inside, puts my thoughts in perspective and reminds me of my

Studies six hours a day for classes, spends five hours for each art
project. "I do my own work at the art department. I also run and do
a lot of exercise, read and just relax – I meditate." My

work out in the gym downstairs at my apartment building."
Josh Cumming Fourth-year English student Works 40
hours a week as assistant manager at a bookstore. "Most of my
stress comes from work, not from school. I smoke cigarettes, about
a pack a day, and I watch the Simpsons." Victoria
Haje Second-year law student Studies during finals time.
"I just relax and talk to friends. I just procrastinate to relieve
stress. I don’t study very often because it’s not
