University Choir gives spring concert

Conductor Irene Kim will lead the 38 members of the University
Campus Choir in their spring concert, featuring works by Bruckner,
Mozart, Ravel and selected spirituals and folk songs, at 4 p.m.
Sunday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

The program will include Mozart’s “Regina
Coeli,” Ravel’s “Trois Chansons,”
Bruckner’s “Three Graduals” and Miriam
Gerber’s “Hadiqah.” The choir will be accompanied
by Elaine Ono.

Refreshments will be served at the end of the concert. Tickets
are $15 and can be purchased at the door, or by calling (310)
826-6316.

St. Alban’s Episcopal Church is located at 580 Hilgard
Ave., Los Angeles, across the street from the Hilgard Avenue
entrance to UCLA. Some parking spaces are available in the back of
the church. Other parking is available in Lot 2 for $5.

Hammer Museum to hold poetry readings

The UCLA Hammer Museum will hold a poetry reading with
prize-winning student poets, including the nominees for the
state-wide Poet Laureate, at 7 p.m. Thursday at the museum.

Other poets include the nominees for the Ina Coolbrith Awards
and the winners of the Fred and Edith Herman Memorial Prize and the
May Merrill Miller Award.

The Hammer will also hold an art workshop for high school
students, “Turning Trash into Treasure,” from 10:30
a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Students will learn to transform everyday
objects into sculpture with C.O.L.A. artist Lynn Aldrich. Aldrich
will talk about her sculptures, created from garden hoses and lamp
shades, and will instruct students in creating art of their
own.

Both programs are free. For the poetry reading, seating is on a
first-come, first-served basis. For the art workshop, space is
limited and advance reservations are required. Call (310) 443-7042

Skirball Center plans family workshops

“A Book of Feelings,” a workshop sponsored by the
Skirball Cultural Center, invites participants to explore their
inner thoughts and feelings during a morning of exploration at 11
a.m. Sunday at the Skirball Center.

Calligrapher and designer Robert Saslow will help participants
delve into their thoughts and produce a colorful book of
feelings.

The workshop is presented in conjunction with the “Sigmund
Freud: Conflict and Culture” exhibition currently on view at
the Skirball Cultural Center through July 25.

The workshop is recommended for ages 7 and up. Admission is $5
per person. Enrollment is limited. The Skirball Cultural Center is
located at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles. For reservations,

LACMA plans family music day

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will hold the Johnny Mercer
Foundation Family Music Day at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the museum.

Ron George and his World Music Ensemble from Inner-City arts
will perform music written for George’s original instrument,
the American Gamelan. Following the performance, families can
participate in hands-on workshops led by the World Music Ensemble
and view the museum’s collection of ancient art in family
gallery tours.

The day is free to LACMA members and included in the regular
admission fee for non-members. It is made possible by a grant from
The Johnny Mercer Foundation. For information call (323)
