Crime watch
Car Theft
Three cars were reported stolen last week, two of which were
recovered within days of the theft.
A 1985 Chevrolet El Camino was stolen from Lot 9 last Monday,
and was located the next day by Hawthorne police.
Also on Tuesday, a red 1986 Toyota Celica was stolen from Lot
32, but Halloween brought a treat for the owner when it was
recovered on Saturday.
University police also recovered a 1995 Acura Integra, Sunday,
which had originally been reported stolen to the West Los Angeles
police.
The owner of a 1985 Nissan 300ZX hasn’t had such luck since his
car was stolen from Gayley Avenue on Saturday. Police have yet to
locate the vehicle.
A stereo worth $400 was stolen from a 1997 Jeep Wrangler last
Monday with no sign of forced entry, and a 1991 Geo Metro was
burglarized Wednesday.
The suspect broke the window and removed a computer and other
miscellaneous property from the Geo. The stolen merchandise was
worth $1,060, and police found fingerprints as evidence.
Theft
The Daily Bruin offices were the site of another campus computer
theft this week, with a computer worth $1,300 reported stolen last
Wednesday. There was no sign of forced entry.
Three valuable bikes were stolen this week, worth a total of
$1,625.
The bikes were stolen from the Anderson School at UCLA and from
garages on Strathmore Drive and Keystone Avenue.
UCPD officers made five separate visits to the Ackerman Security
Office on Thursday, picking up six theft suspects.
Miscellaneous
A man became the victim of battery on Saturday night, as three
unidentified suspects attacked him outside 862 Hilgard Ave.
Also on Saturday, two students were allegedly smoking marijuana
at a Delta Terrace stairwell in Sunset Village.
UCPD officers issued citations to the students for an alleged
health and safety code violation, and confiscated their pipe as
evidence.
