A & E Briefs

A week-long conference called 100 Years of Resistance: Against
U.S. Imperialism featured guest speakers from Washington D.C.,
Philippines and Puerto Rico last night.

The event began outside Kerchoff Hall with a reception serving
Salvadorean food, and moved on to Rolfe later in the night.

Among the speakers was Fernando Remirez de Estenoz, deputy
foreign minister and chief of Cuban interests, and Puerto Rican
Independence fighter Rafael Cancel Miranda.

For the rest of the week, the event will feature several
workshops. UCLA Center for the Performing Arts

Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés will be joined by Brazilian
keyboardist, singer and songwriter Ivan Lins for a concert at Royce
Hall tonight at 8 p.m. Valdés is promoting his new album,
"Bele Bele en Habana."
