Crimewatch

Stolen backpacks continue to be a campus problem, especially in
the Covel Commons dining area and the John Wooden Center cubby
holes. This week, five backpacks were reported stolen from the
Covel Commons cafeteria. In one case, the loss amounted to
$1,045.

A Rolex watch worth $17,000 was also stolen, from the CHS ER
area. Although the report was filed on May 7, the watch has been
missing for about a month.

There were at least three incidents of grand theft auto reported
this week. One involved a police pursuit; the LAPD requested the
UCPD’s assistance as they reached the corner of Wilshire and
Veteran.

Speaking of cars, there were at least four "no injury" traffic
accidents this week, one involving a university vehicle.

Two accidental burglary alarm activations in the Math Sciences
building involved no police dispatch; the telephone calls were
received before police took action. Most other alarms set off were
also accidental.

Noise violations and reports of disturbing peace continued to be
a problem this week. However, upon police dispatch, most incidents
remained under control. Most involved loud stereos or yelling.

Threatening phone calls led at least two subjects to telephone
the police. One of the calls was received in the Medical Plaza, the
other in the Campus Parking Services.

Early last week, a subject grabbed and shoved a victim in a
battery incident in the Landfair area.

Spring fever found at least one man with his guard (and pants)
down this week – he was reported for indecent exposure in the 500
block of Landfair.

The naked suspect ran inside the building from the loading dock
of an apartment.
