Grapevine
GRAPEVINE:
Chow Yun-Fat can shoot two guns at once and bust bad guys
without wrinkling his suit. Hope we haven’t given anything away,
but once you’ve had your fill of um, character development, you may
be looking for a replacement weekend activity. Enter A&E, your
un-informed friends with the pretty vineyard-esque border.
I don’t have a car (campus): Play kindly elder sibling. Call up
your little sis or bro and invite them to an afternoon at the
ballet, conveniently located in Westwood. The culturing process
must begin early and kiddies should get a thrill out of the all-kid
cast of Delibes’ doll house mystery.
"Copellia: A Ballet"
Saturday, 11 a.m.
Tickets: free
443-7020
I don’t feel like walking (video):
This 1980 musical is horribly, wonderfully mindless. Starring
Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John, it’s sort of "An American in
Paris" meets "Grease." Well, not really. But it’s about ethereal
magical muses and roller skating. It’s funny. Promise.
"Xanadu"
I’m hungry (food): We’ve never been there, but the name alone
was enough to give it a shameless plug; "Nova Express Sci-Fi Pizza
Cafe." Their "interplanetary menu" promises such gimmicky delights
as "light ship" and "green star" pizzas. If you want to know what
those are, give ’em a call. They deliver, maybe in one of those
George Jetson hover-mobiles.

I like it live (performance): In keeping with that silly name
theme, check out "A Flea in her Ear" in Pasadena’s Knightsbridge
Theatre. They call it a "riotous tale of mistaken identity." You be
the judge. The company is known for its period pieces, so George
Feydeau’s french farce should be right at home in the quaint–if
petite–venue.
Fridays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through March 22
The Braley Building, 35 S. Raymond Ave., Old Town Pasadena
Tickets: $15, $10 students under 25 and seniors.

Action, schmaction (film): Go the artsy route. Go the starving
artsy route. Save $7.50 and watch UCLA filmmakers in action on the
debut of KCET’s "Fine Cut–A Festival of Student Film." A total of
17 films will air on three consecutive Sundays, including UCLA
masterpieces "Unborn Baby Blues," "The Projects," "INFITD," and
"Cocoon."
Sunday, 10 p.m.
