Monday, 7/14/97 Pepperdine hires Dollar as Waves’ assistant
coach Former UCLA point guard joins staff over NBA, overseas
play
By Rocky Salmon Daily Bruin Senior Staff The Pepperdine
University men’s basketball team just increased its worth by one
dollar. Cameron, that is. Former UCLA basketball point guard
Cameron Dollar has been hired as assistant coach for the Waves.
Dollar will be joining former UCLA assistant coach Lorenzo Romar,
who is the coach of Pepperdine. After not being drafted to the NBA
and neither signing as a free agent with an NBA team nor overseas,
Dollar has decided to become a coach for the Waves. In his senior
year at UCLA, Dollar broke the Bruin single-season steal record
with 82 and finished up with 451 assists. However, what makes
Dollar stick out in Bruins’ minds are his gritty performance
against Arkansas in the NCAA championship game to win the national
championship, and his drive against Iowa State in last year’s Final
Four. Dollar has been known for his strong head play, always
receiving praise from former UCLA head coach Steve Lavin as a
brilliant maestro on the court. Dollar’s knowledge of the game and
undying love for it will be important factors in Pepperdine’s
success next year. With reports from The Associated Press. WYNN
