Theft The Men’s Gym continued to be a hot spot for petty theft,
with $580 in property stolen from its premises this week. A bag
containing $505 worth of property was taken from the locker room of
the Men’s Gym last Monday, as well as $75 worth of property taken
on Friday. Police have no suspects in connection with the two
thefts. The Center for Health Sciences was also hit hard this week,
as property valued at $5,600 was taken from various buildings.
Antique lamps valued at $4,500 were stolen from CHS last Monday, as
well as a $1,000 laptop computer. A $100 VCR was also taken last
Friday. A man’s mountain bike valued at $1,500 was stolen from the
bike racks on the south side of The Anderson School last Monday.
Wheelchairs valued at $2,000 were taken from a parking structure at
720 Gayley Ave. last Monday. The wheelchairs were reportedly
spirited away by two white males in a yellow van, police said. A
university police officer was notified second-hand of a robbery
suspect being held at Thrifty Drugs at 1101 Westwood Blvd. A
juvenile was arrested and marijuana was booked as evidence. Auto
Theft Eighteen autos were reported lost or stolen this week, while
four cars were broken into specifically for their parking permits.
Two burglaries were reported to have taken place Wednesday night in
a garage at 430 Kelton Ave. A cellular phone, speakers and other
miscellaneous items totaling $800 were taken from a BMW parked in
the garage that night. Books estimated to be worth $150 were also
taken from a Ford Mustang that same night. Miscellaneous An illegal
phone account number was used to rack up over $200 in charges from
March 20 to April 15, university police reported on Wednesday. A
bomb threat was received at the Sunset Village front desk on
Thursday. University police determined the threat was a false
