Student government self-serving

It never ceases to amaze me how much illegal liberalism the
Undergraduate Students Association Council is allowed to get away
with.

All year, York Chang and his supposed "Students First!" allies
have sponsored rallies, meetings, and advertisements for activities
which are purely political in nature. This continues to fly in the
face and spirit of the Smith vs. Regents decision. The recent
meeting of the University of California Students Association, which
focused on issues of "people of color," is nothing more than a
meeting to plan political activities and rallies in order to
protest what amount to discriminatory affirmative action
policies.

Affirmative action is a purely political issue, and the
Undergraduate Students Association Council’s (USAC) continued
attempts to cover it in a veil of education are false and
disturbing. Your registration fees help to pay for the University
of California Students Association (UCSA), but I doubt that UCSA
cares much about you or your education. UCSA is only interested in
serving the needs of its small liberal constituency who want more
for themselves at the expense of others.

By continuing to sponsor and funding illegal political
activities, USAC continues to show how little it cares about all
UCLA students. It continues to represent a minority of students who
support its left-wing liberal proposals. Moreover, the council
would like to raise our registration fees (how nice for an
organization which supposedly cares about students). These fees
would not be used for the benefit of all students, but rather for
the benefit of a few special interests. Yet USAC does not care,
because it is merely interested in its liberal interests not
student interests. Your registration fees pay for the council’s
liberalism, but they do not care about you.

The council seems to think that the resolutions it passes will
have an effect on state policies on numerous issues which in no way
relate to the university or students. Rather than focus and lobby
for increased funding for libraries and computer labs for ALL
students, the council continues to sponsor and lobby for programs
which help only a small minority.

The council should stop using "education" as an excuse for
sponsoring illegal political activities.

As student body elections roll around again, think about how
USAC has benefitted you. For 80 percent of you, it has probably
done nothing other than waste your registration fees on illegal,
liberal political activities. It is time that we get rid of York
Chang and other "Students First!" officials, and replace them with
officials who will help garner more support for ALL students’
educational needs and sponsor programs which all students may
happily participate in.
